who we are + what we do 🙋‍♂️💁‍♀️

We’re Jay and Elle, an American couple who made the life-changing decision to leave the U.S. and start fresh abroad. At ages 46 and 36, we realized that the American way of life—endless work, rising costs, and political turmoil—was no longer serving us. Now, we’re on a mission to help others who feel stuck or overwhelmed.

We created the Move Away from USA community to help people take control of their future and find a new home abroad that aligns with their values and lifestyle. Whether you’re just considering leaving or ready to make the move, we’re here to empower you with the knowledge and confidence to start your next chapter abroad. Relocating internationally can feel overwhelming, but with the right information and support, it’s completely achievable. We provide loads of free relocation resources to make the transition easier, including:

how to connect with us

Right now, we call Canada home, having made the move from the Pacific Northwest in the U.S. While we’re settled here for the medium term, our journey isn’t stopping at just one border. We’re actively working on securing passports and establishing bases in Europe, Central America, and South America—building a life that isn’t tied to just one place.

Rather than being confined to a single country, we’re crafting a lifestyle that prioritizes freedom, mobility, and options. Whether it’s exploring new cultures, finding the right balance of cost and quality of life, or simply keeping our future open, we’re embracing a global mindset—one step at a time.

We have a free Facebook group called Helping Americans Move Abroad where you’ll find a wonderfully supportive and like-minded community. Come say hello!
